Tips and Contacts for Slovenia
COLLECT EXPERIENCES, NOT THINGS
I did a four day stay arriving in the evening. Everyone I dealt with had super English so contacting them is quick and easy. My first day, I met up with Iva from "Ljubljananjam" for a 3 hour foodie walk. (The name is a play on the city's name and yum! ) A great introduction to Ljubljana's food, streets and people. Not only that, Iva helped me connect with all sorts of people who made my stay incredible. She is her own Slovenian Tourist Board :) Click below to learn more or contact Iva directly at info@ljubljananjam.si Tell her I sent you :)
Want a real wine experience with a family or two and if the season is right, some picking? I had the great pleasure of being guided by Matjaz of Winestronaut. Another young person passionate about his work, food and of course, wine. They are working on their website but have a good social media presence. Here is a link to their Facebook page. You can contact Matjaz directly at info@winestronaut.com

Getting around was easy enough with public buses but there are times that call for private drivers.
Big Tip: Arrange a driver from the airport beforehand, easiest through your hotel. This will mean a trip to Ljubljana (far from the airport) will be 25 Euros rather than the outrageous 50 Euros charged by taxis waiting at the airport.
For getting to the wine area, I used Izi of Vizit Personal Transport. Professional, friendly and helpful, Izi made my day. Click below for his website or email him directly at info@vizit.si

Two favourite small wineries (you can use Winestronaut to have a great tour, but I want to call them out as they are so welcoming):
Cejkotova Domacija. The owner, Davorin Mesesnel is passionate about his wines. He experiments each year and I loved his creations. You can see some of the food and wines in the slide show on the blog, but I particularly liked his orange wine. None of his wines was at all sharp or alcohol on the nose. Dry and perhaps far too drinkable, we ended the meal with a 26 year old cognac that slipped down with perfect warmth and no abrasion. I'm going back ... He speaks good English and can be contacted at cejkotova.domacija@siol.net . This is the website.
Vino Zorz in Slap. Established 1696. Excellent bubbly and dry whites. We went grape picking in their vineyards with Yuri and members of the community ... picking before the rains began. We were lucky to be served by the Wine Queen for the region! The can be contacted through their website or on Facebook

Other contacts of interest:
Ljubo Zgavc was our guide and wine expert at Vipava Castle. He can be contacted at ljubo.zgavc@vipavskikriz.si or by clicking the picture below. Note that the castle has an open wine day on Saturday, December 10, 2016. You buy a glass and then circulate among the tables of wineries to taste their best.

One final tip. Try the craft beers. My favourite was "Yes, Boss!" pictured below. Cheers
